Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) is a standard that rates the overall effectiveness of air filters. A higher value MERV rating equates to finer filtration, meaning fewer dust particles and other airborne contaminants can pass through the filter. The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) tells you the efficiency of an air filter at its lowest-performing level. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), established this rating under Standard 52.2: Method of Testing General Ventilation Air-Cleaning Devices for Removal Efficiency by Particle Size.
