HVAC air filter, isolated from the dust, particle, outdoor pollutants, which become fresh air into the indoor. But if you don’t change or clean the strainer, it will be dusty, bacteria, virus. If the filters are blocking seriously, it will increase electrical flow of wind machine, then may make the motor burn out. In addition, if the filter lose the performance of filtering, you will still breath dirty air in home. That’s why you need to replace the filters of HVAC.

How often to replace ?
It depends on the filter, its location and the dust load of the home.
Some filters are designed with more surface area bad a “media” of layers of filtration and they can effectively filter without causing too Michaelis restriction, for 3 months, six months even a year.
Those are usually going to be 3–5 inches thick though. You can only cram so much filtration in a 1 inch space. The age of your system has little to do with it really. Restricted airflow is a serious problem for units of any age.
If you are using those cheap (junk) fiber filters, the average home is usually fine for one month on those. But again,it depends on the dust load and location.
Over hard surface floors right near the main entry door, in the homes busiest walkway with carpeted stairs ending at thebottom near it? More dust. Pets? More dust. More people? More dust. Open windows often? More dust.
